Jade Business Park is being energised on 16th July with the first substations coming online on the 17th – the first energisation for our IDNO business, Forbury Assets Limited. Grant Elder, our Head of IDNO, thinks this could be a game changer for the business, “The energisation of our first IDNO network at Jade Business Park is a marquee moment and marks an exciting step for SSE Enterprise. In demonstrating new ways that we can serve the evolving needs of customers, we can deliver on the solutions required.”
SSE Enterprises’ electricity networks team secured a contract with Buckinghamshire Properties to design and install site-wide electric utility infrastructure for the site which is located less than one minute from the A19 and is a premier destination for distribution, technology and manufacturing in the North East.
Utility Solutions has worked vigilantly during the COVID-19 pandemic to deliver the project on time and to client expectations. “From the beginning of lockdown in March, the construction industry has faced immense difficulty in honouring contractual commitments which help keep the economy moving,” says Michael Robertson, our Sector Director of Electricity and Gas, “It is therefore testament to all involved in the project that we are in a position to meet our programme of energisation for the development.”
Working with our partners we will provide Phase 1 with 3 distribution substations and associated Low Voltage supplies for 7 buildings which will require 2MVA. Future phases will require up to an additional 7MVA.
“Jade Business Park is a 55 acre development that will provide excellent access to Tees Valley, Sunderland, Durham and Newcastle upon Tyne with multi-model transport access to the UK and beyond,” explains Noel Powell, Development Manager, “As a development that has Enterprise zone status, it will need a resilient and secure network that can power the businesses on site. This is exactly what SSE can and will provide as well as adopting the risk involved to provide competitive commercial and technical solutions.”
